What Is No-Gi Jiu Jitsu?

No-Gi Jiu Jitsu is grappling without the traditional gi. Without cloth grips, partners use other ways to control position and move with each other.

Gi and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu Clothing

A traditional gi is the jacket-and-pants uniform used in one form of jiu-jitsu. No-gi removes those cloth grips, which changes some ways a partner can hold or control you. NAGA explains that broad distinction; IBJJF has separate gi and no-gi competition uniform rules. Neither sets Kaizen MMA's class dress code.

What Grappling Means in No-Gi

Grappling focuses on positions and control with a partner rather than striking. If you're choosing between class types, decide which skills you'd like to spend time learning first.
